OPS$root user on Solaris

by: rhugga50

Rating7.8Very Good

Is their a built-in feature preventing the root user from being created as an OPS$user? I have a few accounts that are defined externally in Oracle that work fine, however, I cannot get this to work as the root user. The root user belongs to the dba group and has all the correct env variables set but I am still prompted for a password when using any utilities such as sqlplus. Am I missing a security risk here? I am not running a listener on this box, so I fail to see the security risks. This is Oracle 805 on Solaris 2.6.

Thanks for any help,
-Chuck

I have read a lot in the news about some new metaspolit modules that can attack Oracle Systems. Does anyone know if all the vulnerabilities the tool exploits are currently patchable? If so could you provide details of which so we can determine if we are protected?

We are upgrading from Oracle 8i to Oracle 10g (v10.2.0.4) in the coming months. As I understand it, Oracle 9 and 10 began recognizing the SQL92 explicit notation of coding. My question is, does Oracle 10g have the ability to read the former standard. For example, here is a standard piece of code that is used in many of our queries: …
