How to delete RMAN backups (from tape)?

by: trojanguy1175

Rating8.0Very Good

I'm trying to figure out how I can delete all RMAN backups of my database that are older than "x" number of days. Right now RMAN is using Tivoli Storage Manager as the MMS. Does anybody have any scripts or syntax I can use to clean out my RMAN backups up to a certain number of days ago (i.e. 7 days and older)?

This is an example of the syntax I use to back up my database (this is my incremental level 2 backup):

run
{
     allocate channel t1 type 'sbt_tape' parms
               'ENV=(TDPO_OPTFILE=/ora_db/tdpo.conf)';
     allocate channel t2 type 'sbt_tape' parms
               'ENV=(TDPO_OPTFILE=/ora_db/tdpo.conf)';
     backup
       incremental level 2
         filesperset 5
         format 'df_inc2%t_%s_%p'
         database;
     release channel t1;
     release channel t2;
}

  1. Delete old RMAN files from filesystem
    Hi, I have inherited a database and last night I received an error that the NAS that our RMAN writes backups to has filled. I have logged in to RMAN with NOCATALOG as there is no record from my predecessor relating to the username and password that he has given the catalog. I have run "report obsolete;" which shows only backu…
  2. Hardware Failure During RMAN Backup
    At long last we are about to convert to RMAN backups. My boss is concerned about the impact of hardware failure during backup. He's wondering if, should failure occur on the disk to which RMAN is to write, will that impact the running of the database? All i could say was no, based on unintentionally formatting disk areas that did not exist
  3. creating rman backup export utility(daily)
    folks how do I create /implement backups using RMAN? all i need to perform is a daily .dmp export,can I do this with rman? how?
  4. Database Backup Errors
    I'm using a third-party backup software to backup an Oracle 10g database. The software utilizes RMAN to create the backup of the databases.The backup software appears to be configured correctly, but whenever it attempts to backup a database it receives the following errors from oracle: Recovery Manager for <EMR> started.
