PLSQL Sequence Query

I have a section of code and I want to assign the next value of a sequence to a variable.

...

next_seq_val NUMBER ;

BEGIN

next_seq_val := ROWID_SEQ.NEXTVAL ;

...

But I get a compilation error saying something about I cannot use this in this context??

How do I get around this??
